Specialized Architectures for Optical Flow Computation: A Performance Comparison of ASIC, DSP, and Multi–DSP
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we present three specialized architectures for optical flow computation based on: i) an ASIC in CMOS standard cell technology, ii) a single DSP TMS320C40, and ii) a TMS320C40-based multiprocessor. The pros and cons of each architecture are discussed. keywords: optical flow estimation, ASIC, multi-DSP

Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications
Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...
متن کاملEvaluating ASIC, DSP, and RISC Architectures for Embedded Applications
Mathematical analysis and empirical evaluation of the solid state equation PowerCMOS = P = C ⋅V2 ⋅ f ⋅ N ⋅%N is presented in this paper which identifies a measurable metric for evaluating relative advantages of ASIC, DSP, and RISC architectures for embedded applications. Relationships are examined which can help predict relative future architecture performance as new generations of CMOS solid s...
متن کاملDesign and Applications of a Reconfigurable Computing System for High Performance Digital Signal Processing By
The FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) strikes a middle ground in cost/power/performance between ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) and DSP (Digital Signal Processor), while providing field programmability via reconfiguration of internal interconnect and logic functions. However, most current FPGA-based solutions are highly specialized hardware systems designed for narrowly focuse...
متن کاملDMAGIC: A High-level Partitioning Methodology for Discrete Signal Transforms onto Distributed Hardware Architectures
Discrete signal transforms (DSTs) represent a major energy, performance, and area component in many applications, which merits the study of specialized methods for optimizing their implementation to modern computing platforms. Large scale applications such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging and chirp orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) require diverse DSTs as their building...
متن کاملA Distributed Java Virtual Machine For DSP Architectures
Java is for sure the most popular programming language today. Its popularity is based on the portability of the code and on the elegant programming framework provided by the language: built in garbage collection and multi-threaded support, easy Internet application development through socket streams, and last but not least familiar syntax. Even if a lot of work has already been done related to ...
